Topographic surveys are generally done to aid in the design of drainage for a single structure or for the design of drainage of an entire subdivision. These are usually ordered by an architect, engineer, developer or the landowner. Volumetric Surveys are used to determine the volume of material remove and/or place in a designated area. They are used to determine the quantity of material moved for payment or the verify the amount of material removed from a dirt pit or the like.
